Why Lirren needed a different dashboard

For finance operators, the daily job is broader than checking a balance. They need to know which payments arrived, which are expected, what has already been committed, and whether a reserve is on track. Those answers are related, yet typical dashboards split them into separate report pages.

We shaped Lirren around the full review sequence. The top of the screen explains the current position; the middle compares movement and sources; the lower modules expose individual entries, receivables and goals. The result is a workspace that supports a decision, rather than a collection of isolated charts.

The design premise

A finance dashboard should make the next question easier to answer.

IDENTITY / LIRREN

A mark for connected records.

Two offset ledger forms share one baseline. The identity turns that idea into a compact product mark, a clear wordmark and a visual system that moves from interface details to large-scale communications.

03 / IDENTITY IN THE ENVIRONMENT

What the interface had to solve

  1. Connect the numbers. A balance alone cannot explain whether a company is healthy today. The screen needed to place it beside flow, obligations and reserved funds.
  2. Make exceptions visible. Routine completed entries should scan quickly, while overdue invoices and unusual changes need clear status and a direct route to detail.
  3. Keep review continuous. Filtering a ledger or opening one payment should preserve the wider operating picture, so users can investigate without starting over.
PRODUCT LOGIC / 04 STEPS

Built around the finance review.

The modules follow the order in which an operator moves from a headline number to an action.

01

Read the position

The balance, net movement and paired inflow / outflow lines establish what changed before asking the user to parse a table.

02

Find the exception

Status filters and search narrow the ledger to pending or overdue entries while the rest of the dashboard remains in view.

03

Trace the decision

Opening an entry reveals its reference and event trail in a side panel, so review stays connected to the original list.

04

Plan the next move

Invoices and reserve targets bring upcoming commitments into the same operating picture as past movement.

INTERFACE / PRINCIPLES

Design decisions that show up in the product.

OPERATING POSITION
$1.28M Balance+$568K Net movement82/100 Payment score
01

One surface for the operating position

Cash position, incoming and outgoing flow, invoices and reserves appear in a stable grid. A finance lead can move from the headline position to the obligation behind it without changing tools or losing context.

ONE PERIOD / ONE STORY
7D30D12M
02

Comparison belongs beside the figure

A large total is only useful when its direction is clear. Period controls rebase the flow chart and its supporting KPI cards together; dues and targets provide the equivalent context for invoices and reserves.

ENTRY / AH–2418
Bluefin Payroll−$184,600
  1. Initiated
  2. Approved
  3. Settled
03

The entry is the unit of trust

A transaction opens into its reference, payment method, memo, status and event history. That turns a dense table into a route from the overview to an individual decision.

SIGNAL / COLOUR SYSTEM
Clarity before decoration.
04

Use colour for meaning

Forest green holds the structure, chartreuse marks the next action, and red appears only where money moves out or needs attention. The dark reserve panel separates future commitments from the current period.

BEHAVIOUR / THE WORKING PRODUCT

Designed to work in use.

The dashboard is interactive so its hierarchy can be experienced, not just viewed.

7D30D12M
SELECT A PERIOD. THE WHOLE VIEW MOVES WITH IT.
  1. 01 / TIMESwitching between 7 days, 30 days and 12 months updates the main flow chart and supporting totals together.
  2. 02 / DETAILHovering or using arrow keys reveals values at each chart point; the earnings bars reveal their own values.
  3. 03 / TRACEStatus filters and search narrow the transaction list; selecting a row opens its details and event history.
  4. 04 / ACCESSKeyboard focus, responsive layouts and reduced-motion preferences are built into the interface.
STRATEGY TO INTERFACE

The work across the system.

  • Product positioning and information architecture
  • A visual language for the Lirren finance platform
  • Dashboard UI for cash flow, transactions, invoices and reserves
  • Interactive front-end and responsive behavior
  • Case-study storytelling and portfolio presentation
